The function of the Zoning Board of Appeals is to hear and decide appeals where it is alleged there is an error in any order, requirement, decision, or determination by the Zoning Administrator, and to authorize upon appeal in specific cases a variance from terms of the Zoning and Development Standards Ordinance. Seven members are appointed by York County Council.
Meeting Frequency: 2nd Thursday of every month at 6:00 p.m.
Affecting Legislation: Ordinance adopted by York County Council - March 6, 1989. Pursuant to S.C. Code 6-29-1310 – 6-29-1380 Zoning Board of Appeal members are required to receive education training upon being appointed to the board. A minimum of six hours of orientation training and an annual requirement to attend at least three hours of continuing education. New members must attend orientation training within 180 days prior to and no later than 365 days after initial appointment. This training will be offered through the York County Planning & Development Department.
Term Limit: 3 year Terms, limited to 2 Consecutive Terms, then 1 year break.
